Size & Safety Guide

Find Your Fit.
Know Your Standards.

Everything you need to order the right hat with confidence — sizing, ANSI classes, and how to read your certification label.

Step 1 — Measure

How to Find Your Hat Size

Hard hat sizing is based on head circumference, measured just above the ears and eyebrows. Here's how to do it in 30 seconds.

📏

Get a Flexible Tape

Use a soft measuring tape or a piece of string you can measure against a ruler afterward.

🔄

Wrap Above Your Ears

Position the tape about 1 inch above your ears and eyebrows — the widest part of your head.

Match the Chart Below

Note the measurement in inches or centimeters and find your size in the table below.

Hat Size Inches Centimeters Common Fit
20⅜" 51.8 cm XS
21¼" 54.0 cm S
7 22" 55.9 cm M
22¾" 57.8 cm M–L
23½" 59.7 cm L
24⅜" 61.9 cm XL
8 25⅛" 63.8 cm XXL
💡 Pro tip: Most of our hats use an adjustable ratchet suspension that fits sizes 6½ to 8. If you're between sizes, go with your measurement — the ratchet will dial it in perfectly on site.
Step 2 — Choose a Type

What Type & Class Are Our Hats?

All our hats are ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 Type I certified — meaning top-impact protection, the standard for virtually all construction and industrial job sites. We offer three electrical protection classes to cover every trade.

Type I — What We Carry

Top-Impact Certified

All our hats are ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 Type I certified. Type I protects against impacts to the top of the head — the standard for virtually all construction, manufacturing, and industrial job sites. OSHA approved.

Class C, G & E

Three Electrical Classes

Within Type I, we offer all three ANSI electrical protection classes: Class C (no electrical protection), Class G (up to 2,200V), and Class E (up to 20,000V). Check the product listing for the specific class.

Type II — By Request

Available on Demand

Type II (top + lateral impact protection) is not in our standard catalog but may be available for bulk or crew orders with sufficient demand. Contact us if your site requires Type II.

Step 3 — Know Your Class

Electrical Protection Classes — We Carry All Three

ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 defines three electrical protection classes within Type I. All our hats are available in Class C, G, and E — check the product listing for the specific class you need.

Class Voltage Protection Who Needs It Available From Us?
Class E (Electrical) Up to 20,000 volts Electricians, lineworkers, utility crews ✓ Yes — we carry Class E
Class G (General) Up to 2,200 volts General construction, most trades ✓ Yes — we carry Class G
Class C (Conductive) No electrical protection Non-electrical environments only ✓ Yes — we carry Class C
Electricians: OSHA 29 CFR 1926.100 requires a Class E rated hat for electrical exposure above 2,200 volts. We carry Class E — look for it in the product listing. Always confirm with your site safety officer before ordering.
Keep It Looking Sharp

How to Care for Your Hat

The hydro-dip finish is built tough, but a little maintenance goes a long way.

🧽

Clean with Mild Soap

Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. Avoid harsh solvents — they can dull the clear coat.

🚗

Keep Out of Hot Cars

Prolonged heat above 120°F (49°C) can warp the shell. Don't leave it on a dashboard or in a parked car.

📅

Replace Every 5 Years

ANSI recommends replacing hard hat shells every 5 years regardless of visible condition. Mark your purchase date inside the hat.

💥

Replace After Impact

If your hat takes a serious hit — even without visible damage — replace it immediately. The internal structure may be compromised.
