Drilling, cutting, or altering the shell voids certification, and dipping does neither. ANSI does caution that some paints and solvents can damage a shell, so the process matters: these hats are dipped by a specialist partner who has been dipping Ridgeline shells for years.
Sealed under a clear coat. It can scratch with hard use, but the design sits underneath.
