What to Expect From the Finish in the Field

Oil field conditions are harder on gear than almost any other work environment. Here's what to expect from the hydro dip finish:

• Sun exposure: Sun is hard on any hard hat. The full brim adds shade to your face and the back of your neck. Store the hat out of the sun when you're off shift.
• Rain and humidity: The design is sealed under the clear coat, so rain and sweat can be wiped right off.
• Petroleum and drilling fluids: Wipe incidental contact with crude, diesel, drilling mud and field chemicals off promptly with a damp cloth. Avoid prolonged soaking in strong solvents.
• Physical contact: Pipe racks, iron, scaffolding and harnesses will rub the hat, and the clear coat can scratch with hard use.
• Temperature extremes: Don't leave it on the dash or in the back window. OSHA says not to store head protection in your car or anywhere it's exposed to direct sun or extreme temperatures.

A Note on Job Site PPE Policies

Oil and gas job sites often have stricter PPE policies than general construction. Some operators require specific shell colors, ban exterior markings, or mandate company-issued PPE only. Check your site's PPE policy before ordering.
